Koenigstein: Peaceful and Pretty

A few days ago for my bimonthly peaceful interlude, I went to Koenigstein, a small village known for its views and a spectacular fortress that no one has ever even contemplated attacking because it is so hard to attack. Of course, I don’t think that that would hold up today. I did not go to the fortress, but viewed it from the top Lillenstein mountain which was plenty. I stayed at a hostel that was reached by a ferry and a 3 km walk, but I had my own room and bathroom. It was quite nice. On Wednesday I borrowed a bike from the hostel and biked to the bottom of the trail. I then had a leisurely climb to the top of amazing pillars of stone. I ate my lunch up there, took a nap and hiked back down. Then I biked almost to the Czech border. All in all a relaxing and comfy day. Happily the next morning the host was willing to drive me to the ferry as it was pouring rain.
