Door of Reconciliation

Door of Reconciliation

This door at St Patrick’s Cathedral has a hole cut through it where a lord who had taken refuge in the cathedral was asked to shake hands for a truce with the lord he was fighting with. He reluctantly put his hand out to shake. What I am wondering is how the other lord cut the hole in the door without the church getting very upset.

  1. Jenna, we’re looking forward to seeing you and showing you some medieval artifacts in Oxford at the Bodleian Library and the Ashmolean Museum. You may know that Jennifer specialized in both early modern literature and medieval studies and that she does calligraphy for the Society for Creative Anachronism. It sounds as if your interests will line up nicely.
